This week, CPU developer SiPearl, backed by European Union funding, introduced Europe’s first high-performance, dual military-civilian processor, Athena1, boasting up to 80 cores. Designed on the Rhea architecture, this processor is projected to enter the market in the latter half of 2027. Once launched, it will incorporate state-of-the-art encryption and security mechanisms to bolster workloads across government, defense, and aerospace domains. Athena1 provides a range of configurations, featuring 16, 32, 48, 64, and 80 Arm Neoverse V1 cores, addressing diverse requirements from high-end workstations and servers to military vehicles. Fabricated by TSMC, the chip encompasses a staggering 61 billion transistors.
