Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is under pressure from the United States to invest in constructing the most cutting-edge fabs. Rumors suggest that TSMC might relocate the 2nm process, initially planned for production at the Southern Taiwan Science Park. In response, TSMC Chairman Mark Liu affirmed that "the root will undoubtedly remain in Taiwan." Nonetheless, certain perspectives argue that if TSMC transfers its exclusive and state-of-the-art 2nm technology alongside a significant number of talents to the US, it could set Taiwan back by at least a year and a half in terms of research and development and production progress. This shift might even temporarily lead to the closure of some production lines and the loss of orders. Regarding these assertions, the Southern Taiwan Science Park Administration stated, "We are unable to confirm this information."
