The Shanghai BrainX Brain-like Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, in partnership with Huashan Hospital of Fudan University, has achieved a significant milestone in the realm of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). By implanting electrodes into the brains of 10 participants and providing them with a brief training period, researchers were able to decode the neural electrical activity in their brains, enabling a computer to display in real-time the Chinese sentences they intended to say. This groundbreaking achievement offers newfound hope to patients suffering from aphasia due to conditions such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and stroke.
