On October 22, 2026, Anthropic introduced Claude Duet, a proactive AI agent designed to function as an intelligent assistant capable of identifying and reminding users of tasks that need to be addressed before they are even mentioned, taking over tasks, and continuing to work even after the user goes offline. Built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, this product is targeted at professionals and small business owners with complex workloads. Currently available as a research preview to Pro and Max subscribers in the United States, users must apply through a waitlist to gain access. The Team and Enterprise plans are not currently supported, but expansion is planned for the future. Its core features include: proactive management of cross-application tasks, tracking emails and schedules, and continued operation even after applications are closed; reuse of Claude's memory, skills, and connectors to retrieve past conversations and reduce repetitive operations; task tabs to track work progress; support for text or voice interaction, organizing important matters and drafting replies each morning, continuously reporting progress and following up on conversations throughout the day; autonomous judgment on application calls and workload for large-scale tasks, returning results in file form to the 'Make' tab. In terms of application connectivity, it has integrated with Stripe to verify unpaid bills and draft payment reminders, supports Link and ShopPay for authorized purchases, and uses a cloud-based browser to operate on websites without provided connectors. For security design, it seeks user consent before sending messages, making payments, signing documents, or deleting content, does not directly access user passwords, and is equipped with a classifier to block requests for sensitive information leakage. Powered by Claude Opus 5.5, invited users can access Claude Duet through standalone iOS and Android apps as well as the claude.ai web interface, supporting plugin extensions and recommending plugins based on work scenarios. There is no additional charge for use, but it does consume existing subscription quotas.
