On October 20 (local time), OpenAI announced the acquisition of Orchestra Bio, a startup specializing in AI-driven collaborative management for drug development projects. The company will integrate Orchestra Bio's team and technology into its life sciences research platform, Rosalind, to address gaps in organizational coordination and project execution within the life sciences R&D toolchain. Previously, OpenAI had launched the biologically specialized GPT-Rosalind series and its supporting research environment, Rosalind Workbench. This acquisition further strengthens its intelligent management capabilities, bridging the gap from model proficiency to practical R&D advancement. Meanwhile, Anthropic unveiled new progress in biological research, focusing on establishing a closed-loop drug discovery process from AI-generated hypotheses to wet-lab validation. By setting up a physical biology laboratory, Anthropic enables Claude to direct robots in conducting real biological experiments, minimizing human intervention. The two leading AI companies are now positioning themselves in the AI-driven drug discovery sector with distinct focuses, seizing strategic opportunities.
