On October 3, US President Trump designated National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton to serve as the White House Chief for Artificial Intelligence Affairs. Clayton is set to head the 'Superintelligence Task Force' and is tasked with presenting a report within 120 days that outlines the risks and opportunities associated with artificial intelligence. Prior to this, on September 29, Trump issued an executive order mandating that federal administrative departments and agencies adopt the term 'superintelligence' when referring to 'artificial intelligence.' Clayton emphasized that the creation of the task force is intended to safeguard public interests and uphold the United States' preeminent standing in the realm of artificial intelligence. The task force's roster includes Vice President Vance, Secretary of Defense Hegseth, Secretary of the Treasury Besent, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. The task force will scrutinize the reporting mechanisms for risks tied to artificial intelligence and security incidents, including data breaches and hacking attacks, and will offer recommendations on enhancing the federal government's capacity for emergency response.
