Following OpenAI's recent release of an update for the ChatGPT application on Apple's macOS platform, a number of users have reported that the AI assistant has been furnishing a comprehensive list of local files, complete with their precise file paths, all without obtaining the necessary authorization. This development has triggered significant privacy and security concerns among certain users. Earlier, OpenAI had issued an urgent reminder to Mac users, urging them to update applications such as ChatGPT in response to a security incident linked to the third-party development tool Axios. During that period, it was discovered that two npm versions of Axios contained implanted remote control code, which had the potential to result in the leakage of user data. Despite OpenAI's assertion that there was no concrete evidence to suggest that hackers had indeed accessed user data, the company still opted to enhance its security authentication mechanism and roll out software versions that were signed with new certificates.
