On July 14, AI giant Anthropic launched Claude for Teachers, a free advanced AI tool designed for active K-12 teachers in the United States. The tool offers comprehensive features, including an evidence-based curriculum system. Until June 30, 2027, verified teachers can enjoy a one-year free trial. Additionally, Claude for Teachers has integrated with multiple partners, strictly complies with data security regulations, and plans to further expand its collaborations. This new tool poses a direct challenge to the core business of educational technology company Stride, raising market concerns about Stride's competitive position. Following the announcement, Stride's stock price experienced a maximum intraday decline of 7.7% and ultimately closed down approximately 5.6%. Compared to July last year, the stock has cumulatively fallen by about 34%, and it had already been facing challenges such as technical platform issues and declining enrollment numbers. Analysts believe it is too early to determine whether Claude for Teachers can fully replace products like Stride. However, Stride's internal issues, combined with the emergence of a free alternative, may accelerate the migration of school district platforms. The launch also affected the overall sentiment in the educational technology sector, with companies like Duolingo and McGraw Hill seeing their stock prices decline, while Coursera experienced a slight increase against the trend. The market remains highly vigilant about the large-scale, low-cost penetration of AI tools in the education sector, as free AI products may continue to suppress the sector's valuations of education software companies that rely on subscription models.
