The U.S. government is currently engaged in discussions with artificial intelligence (AI) companies to formulate voluntary standards for the release of new AI models, with an official announcement anticipated as early as next week. These proposed standards aim to delineate clear evaluation benchmarks, specify implementation timelines, and define the scope of user access. Earlier, under the Trump administration, an executive order was issued mandating relevant agencies to work in tandem with AI developers to rigorously test models and establish comprehensive standards. In a recent development, the U.S. Department of Commerce relaxed export controls on Anthropic's Fable and Mythos models, signaling a more flexible approach towards AI technology dissemination. Concurrently, at the behest of the government, OpenAI postponed the full-scale public launch of GPT-5.6, restricting its use to a select group of vetted partners. Both companies are now actively preparing for Initial Public Offerings (IPOs). Furthermore, Google sought government consultation prior to unveiling an advanced coding model equipped with enhanced cybersecurity features, underscoring the growing collaboration between the public sector and AI innovators.
