As reported by The Information, Meta has initiated steps to curtail the volume of AI usage among its employees. Given the anticipated expenses for utilizing internal AI tools, which are projected to soar into the billions of dollars, Meta intends to oversee and regulate the token usage permissions of its employees to keep costs from escalating uncontrollably. Earlier, there was a notable spike in AI token consumption by Meta staff, with certain individuals using up to 281 billion tokens monthly, leading to an aggregate company consumption surpassing 60 trillion. To mitigate financial strain, Meta introduced a leaderboard tracking token consumption. However, this approach inadvertently spurred unchecked AI usage, with a staggering increase of over 12 times in total consumption within just 30 days. The current restrictive measures are designed to strike a balance between AI usage efficiency and cost, guaranteeing a judicious distribution of resources.
