On February 19 (local time), Google officially rolled out its latest large-scale model, Gemini 3.1 Pro. Designed as a sophisticated reasoning tool, this model is tailored to tackle intricate problems that demand more than just straightforward solutions. In contrast to its predecessor, Gemini 3 Pro, which was previewed in November 2025, and the later-released Gemini 3 Flash, Gemini 3.1 Pro introduces the '.1' suffix for its mid-cycle update, marking a significant shift as Google adopts the '.1' format for updates within the Gemini series for the first time. Previously, the series followed the convention of using '.5' to denote mid-year upgrades, as exemplified by the 2.5 Pro model announced in March and subsequently refined around the May I/O event.
