Amazon has declared its intention to lay off roughly 14,000 workers, signaling a strategic pullback after a period of business expansion during the pandemic. Prior to this, Amazon had already carried out smaller-scale layoffs in certain departments, and this current round is anticipated to impact an even broader range of departments. The primary catalyst for these layoffs is artificial intelligence. Amazon's Senior Vice President of Human Experience and Technology underscored the revolutionary potential of AI, while the CEO highlighted that the widespread integration of AI will inevitably alter job specifications. Concurrently, Amazon is vigorously advancing the deployment of automation technologies, with the aim of achieving cost savings of $4 billion by 2027. Furthermore, the CEO is spearheading organizational structural overhauls to tackle bureaucratic inefficiencies. While Amazon's intensified AI strategy is instrumental in cutting costs and boosting operational efficiency, it will also result in the elimination of some conventional job roles. Recently, other tech behemoths such as Microsoft, Meta, Google, Salesforce, and Intel have similarly been proceeding with workforce reductions.
