Sources with inside knowledge of the situation have revealed that Uber is gearing up to make investments in the Hong Kong initial public offerings (IPOs) of Pony.ai and WeRide. Specifically, Uber is poised to invest around $100 million in Pony.ai's Hong Kong stock offering. Pony.ai, for its part, is aiming to raise up to a substantial $972 million through its Hong Kong listing.
Simultaneously, Uber has expressed keen interest in investing in WeRide's Hong Kong IPO, though the precise investment amount remains under wraps. WeRide has already set the wheels in motion for its Hong Kong listing, with plans to raise up to $398 million. Alongside Uber, other potential investors eyeing a stake include Grab, Temasek Holdings, and Bosch, to name a few.
At present, negotiations are still in full swing, and these investment plans are not set in stone; they could undergo modifications. It's worth noting that Uber has a history of involvement with both companies. It previously participated in their IPOs in the United States. Moreover, in May of this year, Uber made an additional $100 million investment in WeRide and has established business collaborations with both firms. As of the time this news was released, none of the three parties involved—Uber, Pony.ai, or WeRide—have issued any statements regarding the matter.
