Microsoft has unveiled the October 2025 update (KB5066835) for the Arm variants of Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 systems. This update introduces support for the AVX and AVX2 instruction sets via the Prism emulation engine. For years, the AVX instruction set has been extensively utilized within the x86 architecture. However, chips based on the Arm architecture have not natively incorporated this support, posing a significant hurdle in the evolution of the Arm-based Windows ecosystem. With this latest update, the majority of games available in the Steam library can now be launched and run seamlessly. Additionally, certain productivity applications that hinge on the AVX instruction set can also operate on Arm PCs with minimal configuration, although performance may differ. In cases where the functionality does not activate automatically post-update, users have the option to manually enable it.
