Apple is currently conducting internal tests on an iPhone application akin to ChatGPT, dubbed Veritas. This move is part of Apple's strategy to roll out a significant upgrade for Siri. At present, the Veritas app is strictly for internal use within Apple, with no immediate intentions of releasing it to the general public. The revamped Siri is anticipated to make its initial appearance as soon as March of the coming year, and its performance will carry immense weight for Apple's future. Should the new features be successfully integrated, Apple could stage a resurgence in the AI arena; conversely, failure might leave it at a competitive disadvantage.

Veritas serves as a testing ground for the foundational Siri system, internally codenamed Linwood. This system amalgamates Apple's proprietary research and development breakthroughs with third-party models. Earlier, the launch of the new Siri iteration was delayed due to engineering challenges. The upgraded Siri is set to boast novel functionalities, including the ability to execute tasks based on on-screen information.

To fuel the development of the new Siri, Apple is not solely depending on its in-house team for crafting foundational models. Instead, it is also actively pursuing external partnerships, having held discussions with entities like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Moreover, Apple has plans to unveil a visually refreshed version of Siri by the close of next year, delve into AI-powered smart home device creation, and further its AI-driven web search services.
