SoftBank Group has undertaken a substantial overhaul of its subsidiary structure, with a pronounced emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. The total number of its subsidiaries has now dwindled to 965, marking a significant 35% reduction compared to the 2019 fiscal year. In a strategic maneuver, the group has divested itself of Fortress Investment Group, bolstered its holdings in both NVIDIA and TSMC, and poured $2 billion into Intel. These moves are clearly aimed at establishing a dominant foothold in the burgeoning fields of artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
