Microsoft is making the Windows 11 Paint app more akin to Adobe Photoshop with the introduction of a project feature in the latest beta release. This new feature allows users to save project files with the .paint extension. This file format is comparable to Photoshop's .psd files, as it retains editing details such as layers, canvas dimensions, and transparency settings. This ensures that images are not flattened, making it easier to perform subsequent edits or collaborate with others. Users can create .paint files by selecting 'Save As Project' and can also export these files to more common formats like PNG and JPG. Additionally, the updated version includes an opacity slider tool, which enables users to adjust the transparency of brush strokes, thereby enhancing the expressiveness of their artwork. At present, this update is being gradually rolled out to Windows Insider program members. However, regular users also have the opportunity to try it out early by installing test packages.
