Multiple indicators suggest that OpenAI, which is currently in the process of raising funds to bolster its computing capabilities, has shifted its focus to the revenue that was initially earmarked for sharing with its partner, Microsoft. Early on Friday morning, Beijing time, OpenAI and Microsoft jointly released a statement, revealing that they had entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding for the next phase of their collaboration and were actively working towards finalizing the terms of the contract.
According to informed sources, OpenAI has notified some of its shareholders that the percentage of its revenue allocated to Microsoft will undergo a substantial reduction in the coming years. Originally set at 20% of income until 2030, this share is now projected to decrease to roughly 8%. Such an adjustment implies that OpenAI stands to retain an additional revenue stream exceeding $50 billion. At present, it remains uncertain whether the memorandum encompasses any amendments to the revenue-sharing arrangement. Moreover, both parties are also engaged in negotiations regarding the terms related to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and the extent of OpenAI's expenditure on leasing cloud servers from Microsoft.
