Apple is reportedly planning a major camera overhaul for iPhone users with its upcoming iOS 27 update, centering on deeper integration of its Visual Intelligence AI feature and an enhanced Siri experience.
According to a Wednesday report from Bloomberg managing editor Mark Gurman, Apple sources said iPhone users can expect Visual Intelligence to be further integrated into photo and video modes with the new update.
CNET initially reported on the Siri overhaul rumor in March after Apple delayed AI initiatives for Siri.
The news comes as Apple gears up for the 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference, its annual conference, scheduled for June, where the company plans to reveal updates to iOS 27. According to the Bloomberg report, the update will also improve Siri's ability to control the iPhone camera, allowing users to switch between modes such as photo, video and portrait more easily.
The initial rumor in March said that the new Siri would function as a standalone AI chatbot rather than a built-in tool.
Apple introduced its Visual Intelligence feature in 2024 with the iPhone 16, enabling customers to extract and analyze information directly from images.
The upcoming update is expected to expand image-based capabilities, potentially allowing users to connect with ChatGPT to ask questions about visual content and to scan nutrition labels for dietary tracking purposes.
According to Bloomberg, additional announcements anticipated at WWDC 2026 may include new Siri-focused hardware products, such as smart glasses, a wearable pendant and updated AirPods designed to analyze and interpret the surrounding environment.
Apple has not confirmed these iOS 27 features.
A representative for Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
