On May 26, a video uploaded by a netizen captured an incident where Yu Chengdong, the Executive Director of Huawei, was seen driving a Wenjie M8 with his head bowed down for approximately 20 seconds without gripping the steering wheel. This sparked widespread debate and raised concerns over whether he was "driving while asleep." In the video, the person filming the scene shouts at the moving vehicle, "Mr. Yu, are you asleep?" and honks the horn. Yu Chengdong, in response, rolls down the window to wave and smile. The Shenzhen Traffic Police promptly issued a statement clarifying that such behavior is strictly prohibited, emphasizing that the driver would be held accountable in the event of an accident. Additionally, Wenjie customer service confirmed that the Wenjie M8 features L2-level assisted driving, but emphasized that the driver must maintain control of the steering wheel and keep their eyes on the road at all times, discouraging any distractions.
