During the first quarter of 2025, Tesla ceded its position as the world's leading electric vehicle (EV) seller to BYD, which captured a global market share of 15.4%. Tesla's market share, meanwhile, declined to 12.4%. Geely + Volvo followed closely in third place with an 11.4% market share. BYD achieved this milestone by selling 1 million new energy vehicles, including 420,000 pure electric models, outpacing Tesla in both categories. Financially, BYD also surpassed Tesla in key metrics such as automotive revenue and net profit. This impressive performance can be attributed to BYD's diverse model portfolio, swift introduction of new vehicles, accelerated global expansion efforts, and heightened pace of innovation.
