Li Xiang, the founder of Li Auto, has issued a call to action for the media and industry bodies to standardize the Chinese terminology used in autonomous driving. He proposed a clear mapping from L2 to L5, aligning them with assisted driving, partially automated driving, conditionally automated driving, highly automated driving, and full self-driving, respectively. This move aims to minimize confusion among users. Li emphasized the importance of cautious promotion and ongoing technological investment to ensure long-term benefits. Currently, there is broad alignment between international and Chinese autonomous driving classification standards, spanning from L2 combined driving assistance to L5 fully autonomous driving, with each level representing a progressively higher degree of automation.
