An analysis conducted by the automotive shopping website Edmunds reveals that Tesla owners are shifting to other brands at an unprecedented rate, occurring two months after the conclusion of the Trump administration. According to Edmunds' data, March saw an all-time high on the platform for Tesla owners exchanging their vehicles for models from different brands. Furthermore, the number of users searching for new Tesla models plummeted in February to its lowest point since October 2022. This analysis suggests that Musk's intense political engagement has triggered a public backlash, with some protesters resorting to vandalism to express their dissatisfaction, consequently eroding Tesla's brand loyalty and public attention. Tesla stores, vehicles, and charging stations have frequently fallen victim to vandalism, prompting the Trump administration to caution perpetrators that they could face up to 20 years in prison. As Tesla owners defect, traditional automakers and electric vehicle startups may perceive an opening for growth.
