Tesla recently unveiled its newly designed next-generation Roadster—an all-electric supercar capable of achieving lift-off and executing stunt maneuvers, thanks to a thruster system inspired by SpaceX technology. Production of this revolutionary vehicle is set to begin in 2028. In response to bloggers’ skepticism, who argued that this technology defies fundamental physical principles, Lars Moravy, Tesla’s Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, clarified that Tesla would never showcase unrealizable technologies and assured that all demonstrated features will be implemented. He provided an in-depth explanation of the core parameters of the cold gas thruster system, emphasizing that when the thrust generated significantly exceeds the vehicle’s weight, the Roadster can achieve aerial maneuvers without any violation of physical laws.
The new-generation Roadster will be offered in three distinct configurations: the Performance base model, the Thrust thruster-equipped model, and the Rocket ultimate model. Each version features unique gas storage tank and thruster configurations. Notably, the Thrust model is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under one second, showcasing Tesla’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive performance.
One current challenge facing the technology is the lengthy refilling time for nitrogen tanks. However, Tesla is actively developing a rapid refilling system with the goal of reducing the refill duration to approximately 30 minutes, further enhancing the practicality and usability of the vehicle.
All three versions of the Roadster are now available for pre-order. It’s worth noting that the top-tier Rocket version will not be publicly sold; instead, it will be delivered through an exclusive invitation-only mechanism, adding an element of exclusivity to this groundbreaking supercar.
