On October 20, 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology opened a public consultation on five mandatory national standards, including new regulations for the Autonomous Driving System (ADS) indicator light (commonly referred to as the "small blue light"). These regulations stipulate that only autonomous driving models at Level 3 (L3) or above may optionally be equipped with a blue-green ADS indicator light. The illumination and deactivation of this light must occur automatically, in sync with the autonomous driving system’s status, and manual operation is strictly prohibited. Models with Level 2 (L2) or lower assisted driving functions are not permitted to install or activate this light. The new standards also set out detailed requirements for the light’s color, mounting position, quantity, and coordination with other vehicle lights, with a proposed implementation date of January 1, 2028.
