On October 21, during the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference, Wan Gang, the Honorary President of the China Association for Science and Technology, shared some insights. He mentioned that due to the decreasing costs of new sensor devices and systems, along with the rapid enhancement brought by AI large-model technologies, the adoption rate of new passenger vehicles equipped with Level 2 (L2) assisted driving functions in China had already exceeded 70% in the first half of 2026. It is further anticipated that this rate will soar to over 95% by 2030. In the meantime, the deployment of high-level autonomous driving technologies is also picking up speed. As of the first half of 2026, a total of 57,000 kilometers of test roads have been opened across the country, more than 20,000 test demonstration licenses have been granted, and the cumulative test mileage has surpassed 220 million kilometers. Projections indicate that by 2030, the penetration rate of Level 3 (L3) autonomous driving will exceed 35%.
