Recently, on September 18th, BYD Auto Industry Co., Ltd. and BYD Auto Co., Ltd. formally submitted a recall plan to the State Administration for Market Regulation. This action was taken in strict compliance with the 'Regulations on the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automotive Products' and its corresponding implementation guidelines.
The recall, designated as S2026M0116V, encompasses several vehicle models: Tang series vehicles manufactured between March 28, 2015, and December 21, 2018, totaling 58,026 units; new-generation Tang DM series vehicles produced from May 19, 2018, to January 14, 2022, amounting to 77,846 units; and new-generation Tang EV series vehicles crafted from December 27, 2018, to October 25, 2021, with a total of 7,023 units.
Additionally, recall number S2026M0117V pertains to Qin series vehicles produced from June 27, 2014, to June 9, 2019, encompassing 40,316 units.
The root cause of this recall lies in manufacturing discrepancies, which have resulted in batch inconsistencies in the material composition of the brake pedal stopper pads. Over prolonged usage, these pads may develop cracks and eventually break. In severe scenarios, the detachment of the stopper pad could lead to the brake lights remaining illuminated even when the brake pedal is not engaged. This sends misleading signals to vehicles trailing behind, thereby posing a significant safety risk.
To mitigate this hazard, BYD will authorize its dealers to replace the faulty stopper pads with improved versions free of charge for all vehicles falling within the scope of this recall. It is important to note that vehicles that have already undergone the replacement of their stopper pads with the enhanced version will not require another replacement.
