On September 18, data revealed that Tesla's top-selling electric vehicle, the Model Y, is offered at a lower price in Tokyo compared to other global markets. Due to the yen's depreciation and the subsidy policies implemented by the central and city governments this year, the price of the Model Y in Tokyo can plummet to below $23,000, even surpassing the affordability of a classic Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust watch. Tesla has aggressively highlighted these subsidy policies in its Japanese advertising campaigns to lure consumers in the Japanese auto market, which is currently dominated by Toyota and Suzuki. In the first half of this year, the Model Y emerged as the most imported car in Japan. While Tesla officially lists the Model Y at 5.6 million yen, with subsidies of up to approximately 2 million yen, Tokyo buyers are only required to pay 3.6 million yen (approximately $22,889). Moreover, after subsidies, the lowest price for the Model 3 is a mere 3.3 million yen.
