Previously, Tesla rolled out a streamlined version of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) model tailored for older vehicle models. This involved compressing algorithms originally designed for the more advanced Hw4 platform and deploying them onto the less capable Hw3 hardware. The older autonomous driving computer, equipped with merely 8GB of memory and a data bandwidth that is just one-eighth of the new-generation hardware, also suffers from a suboptimal thermal design. Following the update, the motherboard consistently operates at peak capacity for prolonged durations, causing temperatures to soar up to a scorching 96℃. Consequently, the vehicle frequently triggers high-temperature fault warnings, the FSD assisted driving feature is automatically disabled, and owners are left stranded by the roadside, awaiting the hardware to cool down.
