SAIC-GM has witnessed its second leadership transition within a span of two years. Xu Ping, previously the General Manager of Huayu Automotive Systems, has now assumed the role of General Manager at SAIC-GM. Meanwhile, the former General Manager, Lu Xiao, has been reassigned to head SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicles. This reshuffle also encompasses alterations in several senior management roles within the SAIC Group framework.

Xu Ping boasts a long-standing career within the SAIC system, having garnered experience in both component manufacturing and overseas operations. Since stepping into the leadership role at SAIC-GM in August 2024, Lu Xiao has spearheaded the delegation of product definition rights, established a locally-driven R&D framework, launched a premium new energy subsidiary brand, steered the company back to profitability, and achieved sales growth in 2025. However, during the first half of 2026, SAIC-GM encountered a downturn in both sales and production, with only the new energy sector sustaining growth momentum.

The objective of this leadership change is to foster deeper profitability within the joint venture sector and facilitate product breakthroughs in the independent sector. Under Xu Ping's guidance, SAIC-GM is poised to accelerate its transformation towards new energy, intelligence, and globalization. Presently, Xu Ping has relinquished his positions at Huayu Automotive Systems.
