On July 14, a video circulating on the internet depicted a scene in Shenyang where, during a period of road waterlogging, a black BYD Tang navigated through a flooded area. During this process, its rear motor assembly detached from the vehicle's undercarriage. The assembly remained tethered to the car body by orange high-voltage wiring harnesses and was subsequently dragged through the water. This incident has sparked widespread interest and concern regarding the cause of the vehicle's malfunction and the water safety of new energy vehicles. In response, BYD clarified that the vehicle experienced a substantial impact on its chassis while wading through the water, and this external force was responsible for the detachment of the rear motor assembly. The assembly did not detach on its own during normal driving conditions, nor was it indicative of a product quality issue. At present, the specific model year of the vehicle involved, the extent of damage to the chassis, and the current repair status have not been made public.
