On June 5, reports surfaced indicating that Toyota has recently made the decision to pause the mass production development of its all-electric Lexus sedan, the LF-ZC. Initially slated to commence production at Toyota's Taharafactory in Japan by the end of 2026, the timeline was subsequently pushed back to mid-2027, before ultimately being put on hold. Staff members from Toyota China explained that the suspension of this model's development is mainly a response to shifts in market demand and aligns with the company's broader strategic adjustments to its vehicle development portfolio. They emphasized that this move does not signify Toyota's withdrawal from the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) market.

Industry analysts point out that this adjustment is driven by multiple factors. On one hand, there have been notable changes in BEV policies across regions such as the United States and Europe. For instance, the U.S. government has scrapped the $7,500 federal tax credit for new electric vehicles, while the EU has backtracked on its plan to ban the sale of new internal combustion engine vehicles by 2035. On the other hand, the market competition has become increasingly fierce, particularly with Chinese brands showcasing remarkable strengths in the new energy vehicle sector.
