At present, the U.S. auto manufacturing sector exhibits a significant reliance on Chinese auto parts. There are more than 60 automotive suppliers in the United States that are either wholly owned or controlled by Chinese firms. Across the approximately 10,000 automotive suppliers throughout the U.S., Chinese companies hold roughly a 5% stake. Numerous models from brands like Ford, Toyota, Chevrolet, and others incorporate auto parts manufactured in China. Among the top 100 global automotive parts companies, the presence of Chinese enterprises has surged from just 1 in 2012 to 13 in 2024, with projections indicating this number could reach 22 by 2030. Some enterprises funded by Chinese capital have established themselves as long-term suppliers for U.S. automakers, with CATL leading the charge in the global electric vehicle battery sector. Despite the tough stance adopted by some U.S. automakers towards China, their supply chains continue to be intricately linked to China. While Chinese automobiles have not yet made a large-scale entry into the U.S. market, Chinese auto parts are already extensively utilized in vehicles produced within the United States.
