Nearly a decade after its debut, General Motors' Super Cruise driver assistance system has amassed an impressive total of 1.6 billion kilometers of hands-free driving. In the past year alone, vehicle owners have embarked on 28.7 million journeys utilizing this advanced system. Presently, around 750,000 General Motors vehicles from the 2023 model year in North America are outfitted with Super Cruise. Initially making its appearance on the Cadillac CT6 in 2017, Super Cruise has gradually been rolled out to models from Chevrolet, GMC, and other brands, with further expansion planned for the Buick brand in 2025. As a Level 2 driver assistance system, it enables hands-free driving on select highways. General Motors is set to introduce eyes-off driving capability with Level 3 functionality, starting with the 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ model, drawing on the technical expertise from Cruise. Currently, General Motors is rigorously testing the next-generation system on public roads and is in the process of developing alert mechanisms to support high-speed driving at speeds of up to approximately 113 kilometers per hour, surpassing the capabilities of Mercedes-Benz's Drive Pilot.
