In a strategic move to counter escalating competition from indigenous Chinese brands and counteract a downturn in sales, Honda Motor Co. has announced its intention to market electric vehicles (EVs) under the Honda banner within the Chinese market. These EVs will be conceived and crafted by its joint venture collaborators, Dongfeng and GAC, marking a significant shift in Honda's approach. Concurrently, Honda is set to overhaul its research and development (R&D) apparatus in China. Dongfeng and GAC are poised to independently roll out novel EV models, with Honda taking the helm in steering product development and ironing out the specifics concerning technology and patent amalgamation. Moreover, Honda has ambitions to reverse-export EVs manufactured in China to Japan. Commencing April 17, the Insight model, derived from the Dongfeng Honda e:NS2, will hit the Japanese market, following a series of refinements by Honda. This move positions Honda as the pioneering Japanese automaker to embark on such a course of action.
