On April 22, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) announced a cooperation with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) to produce hybrid vehicle batteries in Indonesia. Toyota will invest IDR 1.3 trillion (approximately JPY 12 billion) to build a dedicated production line at CATL's plant in Karawang, West Java, with production scheduled to commence in the second half of 2026, covering the manufacturing of battery cells and modules. Previously reliant on imported battery cells and modules, Toyota will now achieve localized production of core components, increasing the proportion of local procurement.
