According to drone footage from observer Joe Tegtmeyer, over 50 Cybercab self-driving taxis are parked within Tesla's Austin factory complex, with some vehicles having already completed crash tests. The factory's parking lot routinely accommodates Model Y, Cybertruck, and an expanding fleet of Cybercabs. To comply with current safety regulations, most Cybercabs retain steering wheels and pedals. Tesla operates crash labs at both its Texas and Fremont factories, and the Cybercab is currently undergoing pre-mass-production crash testing. On February 17, 2026, the first mass-produced Cybercab rolled off the line at the Texas Gigafactory, with plans to commence volume production in April. Musk stated that initial production capacity will be slow but will rapidly accelerate, aiming for an annual output of at least 2 million units. Additionally, Austin's commercial self-driving taxi service is scheduled to launch by the end of 2026.
