On April 9 (local time), Volkswagen revealed that, owing to the impact of the current U.S. electric vehicle market landscape, it will cease production of the ID.4 electric crossover at its Tennessee assembly plant by mid-April. Instead, the company will reallocate production capacity to manufacture the fuel-powered SUV model Atlas for the 2027 model year, a vehicle that enjoys higher sales. Notably, the ID.4 represents Volkswagen's sole electric vehicle produced in the United States. It is anticipated that the existing inventory of the 2026 model year ID.4 will be sufficient to satisfy customer demand until 2027. Looking ahead, Volkswagen remains committed to introducing a new generation of the ID.4 in North America.
