The Number One Equipment Industry Department under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has spearheaded the revision of a mandatory national standard titled Signs for Controls, Indicators, and Tell-tales for Motor Vehicles. A draft has been formulated for public review, and the MIIT is now inviting feedback from the general public. The updated standard explicitly mandates that crucial vehicle functions—such as turn signals, window operation, and integrated driving assistance systems—must incorporate physical controls. Additionally, it introduces new categories and technical specifications for these physical controls. The overarching goal is to enhance driving safety, guarantee the dependability and efficacy of vehicle controls, diminish drivers' reliance on display screens, and thereby mitigate the risk of distraction.
