On February 11, reports surfaced indicating that automaker Stellantis is contemplating withdrawing from its U.S. battery joint venture, StarPlus Energy, which it established with Samsung SDI. Currently, both sides are engaged in in-depth discussions about the joint venture's future trajectory. Previously, Stellantis announced an asset impairment exceeding €22 billion (equivalent to $26 billion) and has been gradually streamlining its electric vehicle strategy to conserve financial resources. As of now, Stellantis has not reached a conclusive decision and is also exploring the possibility of selling its stake to a third-party entity. The joint venture, situated in Indiana, commenced production operations in 2024 and represents Samsung's sole battery manufacturing facility in the United States.
