Autoliv and Tensor have jointly unveiled the world's inaugural foldable steering wheel tailored for autonomous driving. This innovative steering wheel will make its first appearance in Tensor's autonomous vehicles. When the vehicle transitions into L4 autonomous driving mode, the steering wheel seamlessly folds and retracts into the center console. Meanwhile, the display screen elegantly slides to the side, offering entertainment options. Conversely, when the vehicle exits autonomous driving mode, the process is reversed. For enhanced safety, the system incorporates an intelligent airbag switching mechanism. The Tensor autonomous vehicle, featuring this cutting-edge technology, is set to be launched this year. Manufactured by VinFast, it is positioned as a premium crossover SUV. Apart from the foldable steering wheel, this vehicle boasts unique features such as rear-hinged doors, signal display screens, an 112 kWh battery pack, and an advanced multi-sensor fusion system. It is primarily aimed at the private vehicle market.
