On December 15, 2025, Tesla initiated a safety operator-free and passenger-free Robotaxi self-driving test in Austin, Texas, USA. Two Model Y vehicles were driving on public roads with no one in the driver's or front passenger's seat. Previously, Musk had repeatedly stated that safety supervisors would be eliminated before the end of the year to achieve fully autonomous operations.
