On October 23, a Li Auto MEGA vehicle spontaneously combusted on a street in Shanghai. In response to this incident, on October 31, Li Auto announced that it had proactively submitted a recall plan to the State Administration for Market Regulation. Starting from November 7, the company will initiate a recall of 11,411 units of the Li Auto MEGA 2024 model. These vehicles were produced between February 18 and December 27, 2024. The root cause of the recall lies in the inadequate anti-corrosion performance of the coolant in this batch of vehicles. Under specific conditions, this deficiency could result in the corrosion and leakage of the cooling aluminum plates for the power battery and the front motor controller within the cooling circuit. In extreme scenarios, it may even trigger thermal runaway of the power battery, posing a significant safety risk.
Li Auto has committed to replacing the coolant, power battery, and front motor controller for all recalled vehicles free of charge. Additionally, the company expressed its earnest hope to prevent any future spontaneous combustion incidents across all its vehicle models.
