The Valve Steam Frame VR headset, still pending an official launch, has taken a significant step forward as its camera tracking system supplier, Komodo Station, has commenced production of a color passthrough module. Industry observers speculate that Valve may offer this module as a separate upgrade kit in the near future. The module is equipped with high-end hardware, including two 32-megapixel sensors capable of 10-bit HDR recording. It features a 64mm interpupillary distance design and offers a binocular field of view measuring 125°×105°. The module natively supports 5K resolution at 60FPS and can be overclocked to deliver up to 144FPS. Functionally, it enables real-time environment mapping, spatial video recording, Gaussian Splatting, and other advanced features. Additionally, it comes bundled with development tools to facilitate spatial interaction effects akin to those seen in the Apple Vision Pro. Komodo Station’s production initiative is widely regarded as an indicator that the Steam Frame VR headset is nearing its release. Earlier reports suggested that Valve might even offer Half-Life: Alyx free of charge to users of this headset.
