On January 12, market research firm Counterpoint Research released a statement on Monday, indicating that global smartphone shipments are anticipated to witness a 2% year-on-year growth in 2025. This growth is propelled by robust demand in emerging markets and overall economic expansion. Within this landscape, Apple is poised to capture the lead, securing a 20% market share, largely attributed to the strong sales performance of its iPhone 17 series. Trailing behind Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi are expected to command 19% and 13% market shares, respectively. Nevertheless, Counterpoint Research also issued a cautionary note, highlighting that the global smartphone market might encounter growth deceleration pressures in 2026. This is due to chip manufacturers prioritizing the supply needs of artificial intelligence data centers, leading to a scarcity of mobile phone chips and a subsequent rise in component costs.
