According to sources within the supply chain, Apple's inaugural foldable device, the iPhone Fold, is poised to make its debut featuring Samsung's cutting-edge CoE (Color Filter on Encapsulation) OLED technology. This innovative approach marks a significant leap in display technology, dramatically boosting screen brightness while simultaneously reducing the panel's thickness. It achieves this by eliminating the need for a polarizer layer, a component traditionally essential in OLED panels to minimize glare and enhance contrast. However, the polarizer layer has a drawback: it absorbs some of the emitted light, thereby diminishing both brightness and energy efficiency.

The CoE technology, in contrast, directly applies color filters onto the OLED encapsulation layer. This breakthrough obviates the necessity for a polarizer, paving the way for screens that are not only thinner but also significantly brighter. Apple is set to pioneer the integration of this technology in the iPhone Fold, a device that could hit the market as early as 2026. Moreover, there are indications that Apple may extend this technological advancement to its subsequent iPhone Air models. Notably, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is also anticipated to embrace a similar technological approach, signaling a broader industry shift towards more efficient and visually stunning displays.
