A TrendForce report reveals that the skyrocketing prices of memory have substantially driven up the overall production costs of consumer electronics. This, in turn, has led to price hikes for end-user products, which are now having a noticeable impact on the consumer market. In early November, after revising downward its production and shipment projections for global smartphones and notebooks in 2026, the research institution has now also adjusted its shipment forecast for game consoles in the same year. Originally expecting a 3.5% year-on-year decrease, it now anticipates a 4.4% decline. The report underscores that the surge in memory prices has affected a wide array of end-consumer devices, and game consoles are no exception. This is particularly significant given that game consoles have traditionally relied on price cuts and promotional tactics to drive sales.
