On October 22, 2025, Apple officially launched the iPhone Air. Some netizens shared their experience that after purchasing the new phone, they were denied eSIM service at a China Telecom business outlet simply because they were over 60 years old. A staff member at a China Telecom branch in Hangzhou explained that they had been informed that only individuals aged between 18 and 60 were eligible to apply for an eSIM card. China Telecom's customer service team verified the existence of this rule and mentioned that, as the eSIM service was still in its trial phase, an age limit had been set, which might be subject to future adjustments. In contrast, China Unicom and China Mobile do not impose an upper age limit for eSIM card applications; Unicom sets the minimum age at 16, while Mobile requires applicants to be at least 18 years old.
