On October 13, 2025, China Unicom formally rolled out a nationwide reservation platform for eSIM services. As of the moment of this report, the reservation count has surpassed 60,000 and is still on an upward trajectory. This strategic move is widely regarded as a preparatory step for the upcoming release of the domestic iPhone Air model. This particular iPhone model exclusively supports eSIM technology and does not feature a physical SIM card slot.
An eSIM, or embedded Subscriber Identity Module, is seamlessly integrated into the device's chipset. It allows for network settings to be configured via over-the-air downloads. This innovative technology not only bolsters the device's waterproof and dustproof capabilities but also paves the way for a more streamlined and slender design.
