Recently, there has been a notable surge in Chikungunya cases and spillover incidents in certain southern regions of China. Professor Zhang Wenhong, the director of the National Center for Infectious Diseases, shed light on the phenomenon, noting that the absence of major outbreaks of the disease in China prior to this has left the population without basic immunity, thereby facilitating the virus's rapid spread. He further emphasized that in specific regions, the Chikungunya virus's R0 value can reach approximately 7, markedly higher than that of the dengue virus. In response to this epidemic, relevant departments have implemented measures such as mosquito control and patient isolation.
